The Air Force is investigating after a jet accidentally fired a rocket into the desert midway between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, on Thursday. The Air Force said the jet, an A-10C Thunderbolt II, popularly known as Warthog, "unintentionally launched a single M-156 rocket" at about 10:40 am during a training mission.

The Air Force is investigating after a jet accidentally fired a rocket into the desert midway between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, on Thursday.

The Air Force recognized the jet, an A-10C Thunderbolt II, popularly recognized because the Warthog "accidentally launched a single M-156 rocket" around 10:40 am while on a training mission.

No injuries or dangers were reported.

The Air Force acknowledged that the M-156, which fires white phosphorus smoke to relieve cross-fire targets and set off fires, crashed into a desert area about 100 kilometers northeast of Tucson, in an uninhabited house below the US Operations House. Defense Force Jackal, which assists air and night training missions for Davis-Monthan and Luke Air Force bases.

"This training house is no longer assigned to unlocking ammunition," the Air Force acknowledged.

Warthog is assigned to the 354th Fighter Squadron of the 355th Fit Flit at Davis-Monthan in Tucson.
