The director of a prestigious learning lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Massachusetts resigned Saturday after a riot over his monetary ties to financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Joi Ito sent an email to the dean of Cambridge University stating that he is leaving office, The Sleek York Instances reported on Saturday. Ito shared the email with the newspaper.
Ito's resignation comes after The Sleek Yorker reported Friday that Media Lab had a more extensive fundraising relationship with Epstein than previously acknowledged and tried to hide the length of the connection.
Rafael Reif, president of MIT, said last month that the university took about $ 800,000 from Epstein over 20 years. He said the college would investigate. His announcement adopted the resignation of two prominent Media Lab researchers because of the lab's revelations, and Ito received money from Epstein after he served a decade's sentence for sex crimes involving underage girls.
The stories of elegant Yorker Epstein organized $ 7.5 million in donations.
Epstein killed himself in the detention center on August 10 while wishing to be tried on charges of sex trafficking. Federal prosecutors in Sleek York accused the 66-year passport of trafficking and conspiracy, alleging that he sexually abused a huge string of underage girls for many years in the early 2000s.
Epstein's arrest on July 6 drew national attention, specializing in a deal that allowed him to take responsibility in 2008 for requesting a minor for prostitution in Florida and avoiding more serious federal charges.
Epstein became a wealth manager who lived with the rich, renowned and influential, including presidents and a prince.
He owned a non-public Caribbean island, properties in Paris and Sleek York Metropolis, an elegant Mexican ranch, and a fast race of upscale cars.
Emails looking for private comments were sent to MIT, Media Lab and Ito.
